East Side Gallery

The biggest reason why the East Side Gallery is on the list of places to visit in Berlin is that it is the surviving part of the Berlin Wall. The gallery exhibits the concrete traces of the painful and turbulent periods of the city that lasted until recently. With the Berlin Wall built by the Soviet Union in 1961, the city almost lost its identity. Here is the East Side Gallery, an intact 1.3 km long section of the Berlin Wall. The transformation of the wall into an open-air gallery is interesting in itself.
